About Us

Hi, I’m Jamey and I started LawnManual.com (formerly LawnMowersCatalog.com) in 2014 so I could buy and test lawn mowers, string trimmers and leaf blowers (and learn heaps about lawn care) for fun.

About Me:

Lawn Care Qualifications Jamey KramesTurfgrass Qualifications: I have completed Principles of Turfgrass Management @ the University of Georgia. That means I am a certified Lawn Care Manager by the National Association of Landscape Professionals. The course taught me everything there is to know about cool and warm season turfgrasses, turfgrass soil physical properties, turfgrass nutrition, mowing and irrigation as well as treating weeds, insects and diseases.

UBC MECH Jamey QualsPower Equipment Qualifications: I am also a mechanical engineer by trade and have spent the last 12 years researching, disassembling, testing and recommending gas and electric power equipment for various authority publications, namely pressurewashr.com, where I was quoted in PopularMechanics, NYTimes, Homes.com, Realtor.com, HowStuffWorks and many others. Since all power products use the same few small engines and electric motors, I thought lawn mowers and other garden equipment would be a perfect crossover for pressure washers and portable generators.

Testing and Push Mower Use: I am currently in my mid-30s and live in the suburbs and have 1/4 acre of lawn to mow (between back, front and side yards). I mow mainly with my trusty Honda, EGO or Milwaukee mowers but also always have a bunch of other mowers sitting in the test shed waiting to be tested. (benefits of having a lawn mower website). My neighbor also happens to own his own lawn care company (and is nearing retirement age) so I often help him out a few hours each weekend. It means I get fresh lawn to test my mowers and use his. He has 3 Honda HRX mowers and a John Deere ride-on with a grass catcher as well a heap of string trimmers and leaf blowers.

More Push Mower, Riding and Tow-behind Mower Use: I’ve also owned 194 acres in the country for 3.5 years now. It’s 2 hrs drive from my suburb house and my family and I visit it every second weekend to enjoy the great outdoors (and I do some mowing 🙂 ). It has about 40 acres cleared that need mowing. The rest is forest, rocky hills and a deep gully/canyon with flowing water. So I’ve experimented with different riding mowers and tow behind mowers. Lots of the photos you see on this website will be taken at either of my properties.

Plenty of photos of me mowing and doing lawn care to come (waiting on my Sony Alpha A7RIV to arrive).
