Lisa J asked:

I need to buy a new lawn mower and would like to know what I should consider when buying it. I have a small lawn. Any models stand above the rest?

If you re lawn is small probably a walker. You want one that is light and probably a self-propelled. If you care about clippings you might want a basket.

Get a $100 K-mart no namer if you have a small yard. I have mine 12 years now.

This is my first year with a people powered reel mower. If you don’t have any slopes, it’s perfect for a small yard. I found that it doesn’t require any more energy than ‘old Gassy’ and I never have to plug it in, charge it up or drive to the gas station. I’m not ******* fumes and I don’t have to worry about cutting off a toe. The down side is that it stops if I hit a twig and it won’t **** up the leaves. Ahh, a small price for the environment.

3.5horsepower/briggs&stratten motor,22 inch cut, with side discharge. That should do it.Although you will have to do the pushing.A self-propelled one will cost you more. You also should consider a local kid or service to do your mowing for you,and you don’t have the hassels. Just a thought. P.S. You can get free estimates before choosing.Still though try a kid from your neighbor hood,or church, or even a relative.

You only have a small lawn, please consider buying a push lawn mower. It’s cheap and works good, and most of all you are conserving energy and helping the environment. I bought mine at Home Depot for $89.00. When mowing, I get to do my exercise too.

Horsepower always helps even in a small yard.. Ease of starting. Availability of parts and service. Brand reputation. Honda and Husquvuarna come to mind.
