Overseeding a lawn with a dog question?

Now for the question - how will a dog affect the new grass growth? The dog is an inside dog. Only goes outside to use the bathroom. Should the dog go to the bathroom in the front yard (which isn’t being seeded)? For how long? Thanks for any insight!
Thanks! That’s what I was thinking. I’ll keep him off the lawn until the first mow. Luckily, the dog does not dig or do anything bad to the yard (yay!). All he does is go to the bathroom. I’m going to teach him to go to the bathroom in his corner. I’ve never thought of that before. Oh yeah, I got fertilizer that wouldn’t hurt the pup.

i just re-did my lawn too and i also have a dog. u should block ur dog off from the grass for like the first two to three weeks and once there is pretty good growth the dog shouldn’t harm the grass at all.

the only thing that could harm him is fertilizer. have him use the front yard, or take him for walks. it’ll be good for the family to get out.

Yes, let doggie go potty in front yard while grass is establishing itself. Grass will definitely have a hard time growing where a dog habitually pees. I don’t know what type of grass you have planted, but I would wait until you need to mow it.
Do you have a specific spot your pooch goes to in the back yard or does he go all over?

Keep the dog off the new growth for about a month, until the new growth has really come in, also some fertilizers can be toxic to animals.
Female dog urine can kill grass, so keep that in mind.
PS– as a dog and lawn owner myself, I have taught my dog to go in his “potty spot” away from anything I want him ****** or pooing on. You may want to consider doing this if not already done.

you will always have problems with a lawn and a dog ,you see the 2 don,t mix.so i,m afraid its 1 or the other or a little bit of digging now and again.
