How should a 12 year old start up his lawn mowing/lawn care business?

January 5th, 2009

Gotta know asked:

What is the best way to start it all up? Is it safe? I have many old people around my area, but my family is not friends with them. I don’t want to just go up to them and be like, “Can I mow your lawn? Its $25.00″.

if you have a electric lawn mower and keep your prices low (and 25 dollars is not low) then you go knock on the door.

well start off cheap and when your name goes around then slowly raise the price. also get a nice expensive lawn mover . also make a few signs and post them on a window in the front of your house so people can see it. also catchy names are good or some slogans. also make sure you are cheaper than your competition, but not too cheap so that way you do make a profit.

good luck

A business card will help greatly. They cost a lot to print up so I suggest you make some by hand or print them on a computer if you know how.
Put your name, home address and phone number on the card. Print a business name like “Lawn mower guy” on the top.
It’s not legal to put them in mail boxes but you can put them on it or at their door if they are not home. I suggest you hand the cards to people. They might get back to you with a card. You could put the estimate of the rate you will charge. If the rate will vary depending on the size of the lot you will need to keep a book on every card you drop off to remember the estimate.
Good luck. And remember that doing the sales part is the hardest part!
