How do I winterize my lawn and get it to grow in the Spring?

May 4th, 2009

illinoismommy asked:

My lawn is patchy from removing a swing set and cutting a fur tree upward, exposing underneath. How can I get it ready for Spring? Should I plant grass seed now or wait it out? Anyway I can promote Spring growth? Thanks so much!

If you do not plant seed for lawn one should totally cover the spot or spots to avoid weed growth in the spring as they will come first. The ants should till the soil well for the spring.Just remove the covering and then start with seed but keep care to remove all new weeds bfore they get big and get them by the root.
To promote spring growth use a high nitrogen firtilizer in the fall.
The best way to make good new grass is to plant the seed in a shelter or cover the new grass seed so birds do not eat it and weeds do not grow first.Sod grass peices are cheaper than most think too.Just water the ground first then place the sod, then lightly stamp it down with your foot.
Good luck ;)
