How do I ask someone to mow their lawn for money?

November 27th, 2008

Justin Knapp - Drummer asked:

I need to raise about $600 - $700 this lawn mowing season. I need to know the most effective approach on how to ask someone if they would like their lawn mowed. Lawn mowing rates can also help to so I know how much to charge.

Probably the best way would be to make a bunch of fliers with your name and phone number and then put them near (not in) mailboxes and/or front doors. Then let people contact you.
Going door to door is tough. People don’t like to be put on the spot like that. If they have a piece of paper and time to think about it, that’s better.

just go knock on the door and tell them that you live next door and that you say their lawn needs mowing and wondered if they would like it mowed for $. and if they say yes you are hired take care.

. Good plan. Call up some of these landscape places and see if they have an hourly lawnmowing rate. I bet for an average lawn, it’s about $15. I suppose a gallon of gas lasts an hour which might cost you $4.
Re-do a lawn every 2-3 weeks?
So if you do 5 lawns a week @ $11 profit, that’s $55. In 12 weeks you’ll have $660.
So print out some ‘flyers’ and slide them under people’s doors. Do NOT use their mailbox as that is Federal property!

Make fliers, take them door to door.
Leave them at local businesses (with permission)
have your parents tell their friends.
