How can I prevent the grass in my lawn from growing too fast?
December 22nd, 2008
antony asked:
Most of my neighbors take care of their lawns. They mow, fertilize and irrigate. I **** to mow my lawn every week. The grass in my lawn has been there for many years. I don’t cultivate, nor fertilize, nor irrigate, nor killing unwanted weeds.
But the grass grow very fast and green during this springtime.
Still I have to use my weedeater every two weeks. Can I use a little bit of weedkiller, so it will not grow too fast and yet prevent it from dying completely?

Many golf courses and cemeteries actually use a ‘retardant’ to slow down the growth. I have never seen it in retail shops but it is used my professional and commercial lawn care companies.
Call around and see if it can be bought from them.

It is completely unusual to use a weedkiller on turf every two weeks. In fact it is harmful to you, your pets, children, and turf!
Apply the weedkiller, if you want, three times a year. A spring application gets you some control. An application in mid-september then six weeks later will begin elimination of the weeds. Top seed with good grass seed a week after the sept. application.
There are a few Growth Regulators available for turf. In most states you need to be licensed to apply it. Find a nursery that specializes in Commercial Landscape sales and services. They will have the proper compound or advise you as to a firm that can make an application.
I am going to tell you that most growth retardants are laughed at by weeds. The real grass will slow but the weeds will continue to grow and spread. Surely there are responsible mid to late teenagers in your area that can cut your lawn at a reasonable price.
I can provide you with a turfgrass program which would be both cost effective and far safer than using chemicals every other week. You can contact me at.
