Any way to make a lawn mower quieter?

February 22nd, 2009

Brian.E asked:

I have a gas powered push lawn mower, and it is a bit noisy. It is a 4 horsepower Briggs & Stratton. Is there any way I could lower the noise that is produces when running? Thanks in advance!

You may try a “Low Tone” muffler. Thats about the best that can be done for a noisy mower.

I would wear some headphones to cover the noise…because that is what i do and when you are into the music you will also be into cutting the grass

You should be able to find an after market muffler at a small engine repair shop. I got one adapted from a Honda to fit my 5HP Briggs, big difference. The blade can also be noisy, especially the mulching blades. If you don’t need the mulching effect, get the straightest blade with the the least amount of lift. Your repair shop should know what I’m talking about. RScott

Goats do make noise, but it wouldn’t be as prolonged as a lawn mower’s engine. (And just think of all that wonderful goat cheese you could get your kids to make with an old fashioned churn. It would be fun making them do that!)
